FRESH AND FREE FROM ANYTHING NASTY

We use our own bespoke methods and machinery to carry out dust extraction and shredding to ensure a high-quality end product for our customers. We believe in growing varieties that will taste great, and when processed and packaged by us, they are as nutritionally rich as possible. There is a varied blend of grasses in our hay packs so that the animals get a good variety of tastes and textures while our soft and golden barley straw is used so that the animals can enjoy a cosy warm bed.

We currently produce and supply the following products which come in a variety of pack formats for the small animal market:

  • Dust Extracted Hay
  • Barley Straw
  • Five a Day Herbs & Hay
  • Wood Shaving Bedding

We aim to provide a reasonably priced product that puts the welfare of small animals first and maintain our position as a quality producer.

We are always looking at ways to improve our products and to develop new ones in response to demand.

HAY VARIETIES AND TASTES

Here at Norfolk Pastures we use a mixture of Rye, Timothy, Cocksfoot and other meadow grasses in our hay to give a variety of tastes. The variation in taste makes it a much more enjoyable eating experience for the animal and owners of small pets have peace of mind that the hay is giving their animal all that they need as part of a nutritionally balanced diet.

We understand that taste and texture are huge deciding factors when choosing hay and straw and that is why we use these tried and tested varieties. Small animals love them and a happy pet means a happy owner. All that any owner of a small animal really wants is to see them happy and healthy.

NATURALLY SUNDRIED AND DUST EXTRACTED

By allowing the hay and straw to dry naturally in the sun on the fields we can ensure a ‘natural’ and more ‘healthy’ start to the process. No machines are used to dry the hay and straw. These can in fact increase the dust content of the hay and straw, and this is why we do not use them.

By using our own bespoke technology, we reduce dust and fungal spores which makes our products the very best for small animal health. High levels of dust and fungal spores in hay and straw can severely damage an animal’s health and lead to expensive veterinary costs and discomfort.

MEADOW HAY

Norfolk Pastures use only the best varieties of grasses to produce our hay, they consist of Rye, Timothy and Cocksfoot and various meadow grass, which are harvested in mid-summer when they are lush, green and near to seeding, it is then naturally dried in the sun after cutting, this helps to retain as much nutrients as possible. It is then stored in dry barns until it is time to be packed.

BARLEY STRAW

We only use Barley Straw, this is because of its golden colour and soft stalks which can provide a warm and cosy bed. Compared with Wheat Straw which is known to be sharper and brittle making it more likely to cause injuries and infections, harming your small animal’s eyes. Once again, the straw is harvested when it is golden in colour and at its driest and stored in our barns. It is left in longer strands for a more natural burrowing material.

FIVE A DAY HERBS & HAY

We have formulated our own unique blend of 5 beneficial herbs mixed with our premium dust extracted meadow hay. A fabulous addition to your animal's diet to mix things up a bit, which is unlike any other blend on the market.

Also we have recently changed our packaging of this product from plastic to cardboard and there are a number of reasons why. Whilst reducing our carbon footprint this box creates a brilliant boredom breaker for your small animals to enjoy. The rabbit hole in the bottom left corner is there to encourage your small animals to forage around for their food just like they would do in the wild.

These herbs include:

  • Red Clover
  • Marigold
  • Dandelion
  • Mint
  • Lemon Balm
